Fenland paintings

Though far from the quintessential English landscape, the Fens has its own unique intrigue. I often find myself completely alone in this slightly eerie environment, with only birdsong and the distant hum of farm machinery for company.

This almost two-dimensional landscape, with its huge skies and featureless flat fields, inevitably draws your eye to the detail of the distant horizon, accentuating the vastness of the fens.

In my paintings I concentrate my focus on this meeting-point of land and sky to evoke a genuine feeling for the fenland landscape.

...if any landscape can provide darkness, with a very real hint of menace, it is most surely the Fens.
